COUNSELLORS’ KNOWLEDGE ON EMPOWERING GIRL CHILD EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPEMENT IN ANAMBRA STATE.

Abstract


This study examined the counsellors’ knowledge on empowering girl-child education for sustainable development in Anambra State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. This work adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 107 professional Guidance Counsellors in the state. The entire population was used because the number was manageable. An instrument developed by the researcher titled Counsellor’s Knowledge on empowering girl-child education for sustainable development (CKEGESDQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation. The reliability was established using Cronbach Alpha. The result gave coefficient value of 0.73.  The researcher administered the instrument with the help of six research attendants. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. Independent t-test was used to test the hypothesis, at .05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there was no significant difference in counsellors knowledge on factors empowering girl-child education for sustainable development in Anambra State based on year of service. Also there was no significant difference in counsellors knowledge on empowering girl-child education for sustainable development in Anambra State based on educational level. Conclusion was made and some recommendations are made among which was that the school counselors should continually give information to girl-child education for sustainable development.
