Abstract

This study examined the effects of token economy technique in reducing aggressive behaviours among secondary school students in Anambra State, Nigeria. The research aimed to assess the effect of these interventions on both male and female students, using a quasi-experimental, non-randomized pre-test and post-test control group design. A sample of 94 students was drawn from 554 senior secondary school students, and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ) was used to measure aggression levels. Four research questions and hypotheses were tested using mean scores and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings showed that token economy technique significantly reduced aggression among students. Female students responded better to both interventions compared to males. The results revealed that token economy reduced aggression more among female students, though the difference was not statistically significant. The study concluded that technique is effective in reducing aggressive behaviours and recommended that school guidance counsellors incorporate these methods into their programs.
