AVIEWS OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS’ ON STRATEGIES FOR ENHANCING BUSINESS EDUCATION SKILLS AND VALUE ORIENTATION FOR JOB CREATION AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
This study explored the perspectives of business educators on strategies to enhance business education skills and value orientation for job creation and national development. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. A survey design was adopted in the study. The population of the study comprised 100 business educators from federal and state owned tertiary institutions in Anambra State. Instrument for data collection was 38-item structured questionnaire. The instrument was validated by three experts: two from Department of Business Education, and one from Measurement and Evaluation, all from Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State. The validated instrument was used to determine the reliability co-efficient of the instrument using the Cronbach Alpha approach, and it yielded co-efficient of 0.87. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions, while the null hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics. The findings indicate strong agreement on the importance of communication, professional, office, data analysis, and financial accounting skills, while highlighting gaps in entrepreneurship, presentation, and business management skills. The study also identifies key strategies to enhance business education, including practical training, industry collaboration, digital skill integration, and continuous curriculum updates. Additionally, fostering entrepreneurial values, integrity, accountability, and a growth mindset are recognized as crucial for value orientation. The results underscored the need for comprehensive approaches that align educational practices with industry demands and ethical standards, providing significant implications for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in business education. The study concluded with recommendations for a way forward and implementation strategies to optimize the positive impact of business education on job creation and national development.
