Abstract

Insecurity in Nigeria is a significant challenge that affects the country's stability and development. This paper explores how counselling can help mitigate insecurity through psychological support and conflict resolution. Counselling addresses underlying issues such as trauma and stress, contributing to community empowerment and resilience. Despite obstacles like limited resources, stigma, and a lack of trained professionals, counselling remains a crucial tool for fostering peace and security. Integrating counselling services into national security strategies and promoting collaboration with law enforcement and community leaders can enhance Nigeria's capacity to address insecurity. The paper recommends policy changes, increased funding, and expanded training programs to maximize the impact of counselling services, emphasizing the importance of addressing both psychological and social aspects of security.
